FILE OF LIFE
The FILE OF LIFE is the latest
version of a program originally known as the Vial of Life and is
designed for use by emergency medical personnel if called to a
person’s home. The original idea was to keep the vial inside a
person’s refrigerator. The small vial was often hard to find in
an emergency however and moisture accumulating in it made
information unreadable. The FILE OF LIFE card is a mini-medical
history posted on the outside of the refrigerator. The card
which is kept in a red magnetized plastic pocket lists the
person’s name, emergency contacts, health problems and
medications. For further information go to
www.folife.org or contact the Dennis Council on
Aging (508) 385-8414. |

TELEPHONE REASSURANCE PROGRAM
The Dennis Council on Aging
administers this program which uses volunteers to call
participants on a regular basis and chat for a few minutes
thereby providing a reassuring aspect to their lives. The
program is offered for those people in special situations (i.e.
people living alone or who find themselves temporarily homebound
with few regular contacts) who might want the reassurance of
knowing that someone will call them regularly.
The police department has
partnered with the Council on Aging to check on the well-being
of participants in the event a volunteer cannot reach the
participant by phone. To register for this program or for
further information contact the Dennis Council on Aging at the
Dennis Senior Center at (508) 385-8414 or call
